Just One Touch and My Heartrate Increases

I like to call myself, "efficient", but in actuality some might call me, "lazy". I keep diaper changing gear in the living room so I don't have to run upstairs all the time (okay, this was also a safety thing back when I had a newborn and a one year old, but now that I only have one kid in diapers it's probably unnecessary). I pile things on the stairs so I can take them all up at once when I'm going up there anyway. I fold laundry while relaxing on my bed. When it's time for my kids to clean up their toys, I'm more likely to be supervising than carrying around the Lego tub.

And yet I can't bring myself to use the "One Touch" option on my microwave.

Seriously.

Every time I think about it this voice in my head says, have you become so freaking lazy that you have to touch one button instead of four to heat up your son's (frozen, storebought) quiche? Do you really not have the time to press four damn buttons?

And then I press the four damn buttons. I'm sure there are situations in life where a one button option could be lifesaving. But I'm also pretty sure that those situations do not involve microwaves. It takes less than five seconds to press the buttons - and to choose which button you need for the "One Touch" option. So it's not even a real time-saver (yeah, I checked. I'm a dork, okay?).

Maybe it's for people who don't know how to type in minutes and seconds? Or for people who have numerophobia?

Do you have the "One Touch" option on your microwave? Do you use it?

I have a 30 second "quick fire button" as well as a 60 second "quick fire button". I use those daily. Anything other than 30 or 60 seconds gets typed in using multiple buttons.

I don't know how to use anything but the "convenience cooking" options on my microwave. There are six: reheat, beverage, popcorn, frozen dinner, potato and pizza. Now I ask you, what more do you need?

I've been told I'm lazy becaues instead of pushing in 30 second into the microwave, I'll put in 33, 22 for 20 and so on. It's so much easier and efficient!

I have it and I've been weary to use it too. Although, when I have no idea how much time it will take something to cook I'm all about it.

I don't think I've ever used the One Touch button on my microwave (I didn't know we had one until you mentioned it, then I got up off my ass and checked: we do).

Use mine at least once a day. Before the contacts are in & the caffeine has hit the system, I click the "three minute" button to warm my tea water. The world revolves around that jolt. I need it.

Hmmm, well, now that you mention it, I don't think I have ever used the one touch button on the microwave.

Jewelgirl - That's a good point. I hate the smell (and the taste) of burned popcorn.

Ha! I just read silken's comment. I guess I should have read that before I wrote mine. I am always worried the beeps will wake the boys when they are napping too. hehe

I live for my one touch button. Love it! Love it!
The beeps on my mic seem to be so loud, and when I am reheating my coffee for the 30th time I only have to endure one loud beep instead of 4. I guess I'm lazy and easily annoyed. ;)

My microwave SO rocks! If you push the 1 button, it goes for one minute. The 2 button goes for two minutes and so on up through 6 minutes! Yeah...that's right...one touch, several minutes options. And I use it all the time. Pushing more than one button has begun to confuse me.

My microwave is like Cris's- and I use it all the time. Plus, I have this "reheat" button, that you type in "reheat +1" for casserole "reheat +5" for pizza, etc. And I use that too.

But here's where I get geeky. If I'm making tea in the microwave (usually not- I do have a kettle on the stove), I type in 1:11 because 1:12 is perfect, but I don't want to move my finger over by one button.

Yes, I use the one-touch button! First of all, I am a Luddite and machines scare me. I approach them furtively, terrified that if I'm not careful, they'll sense my fear and gain the upper-hand. So I quickly press the button, then get the hell away from the thing, approaching it again only after it beeps, to whisk the food away as fast as possible. Secondly, I don't have the visual acuity to stand there, trying to figure out what does what. Pitiful, isn't it? You ought to see me with my washing machine.

Our micowave has one but I don't think I've ever used it. It's too complicated. I always figure that most stuff I microwave has instructions on it for how long to nuke it for so I probably know better than the microwave how long I need for it to be on.

it seems i eat nothing that warms up in an even number of minutes. my microwave has the one-touch feature by default (how cruel is that?) so i got to punch in 1:30 and as soon as i hit one the thing comes on a scares me and pisses me off at the same time. i feel your pain.

I only use my one-touch for popcorn and beverages. For anything else, I don't trust it. It helps me to feel superior to my microwave.

Crystal - Sounds like you deserve a new microwave!

Leslie - "It helps me to feel superior to my microwave" - that's awesome. And so true.

I have a "micro express" button that is :30 autostart. I don't know if I can be called lazy, because I hit that button 12 times for 6:00. But, hell - I don't even have a number pad on my microwave. It' like an ipod - it has a freakin clickwheel.
