Silent No More

By now, you have probably seen the finale of Downton Abbey Season 3. If you haven't, um, go do that now. If you don't watch Downton Abbey, please leave this blog and go watch the first two seasons on Hulu. And the third on PBS.org.

Okay. I have been dying to talk about this for months, because I was one of those terrible people who watched the show online thanks to nice English people who posted links on Facebook. Seriously, do not keep reading if you don't know what happened last night.

Who do you want to smack the most, Dan Stevens (aka Matthew Crawley) for leaving the show or Julian Fellowes for killing him off?

Sybil dying kind of made sense to me, even though it made me cry and I certainly wasn't expecting it. But it set up all sorts of delicious tension with Branson and between Robert and Cora. I'm sure Matthew being dead will set up some interesting story lines for Lady Mary, but I've already seen Mary be single. I think Matthew should have had to go to India or Africa or something. Or maybe he should have become horribly disfigured in the car accident and we could have seen Mary deal with having an ugly husband. Then they could have recast him and Matthew wouldn't have to be dead, dammit.

But, as much as I want to smack Julian Fellowes, I want to smack Dan Stevens more.

Don't leave a hit TV show in the middle, Dan. Ever heard of David Caruso? Shannen Doherty? Shelley Long? Anthony Edwards? Okay, George Clooney did it - but only after he'd been kicked off of a bunch of other shows (he was on Roseanne and The Facts of Life, kids, look it up). Plus, he was George Clooney. I Iike you, Dan Stevens, but you are no George Clooney. People are dying to be on Downton Abbey and you quit. It's just wrong.

Other thoughts on Downton:

How do we feel about Rose? I'm not a fan, she reminds me of the annoying girl on Nashville (Scarlett) but we do need some comic relief besides the Dowager Countess. Maybe she can distract Edith from her married editor.

I really hope Edith gets an age-appropriate, single man next season. It would be kind of fun to see her happy while Lady Mary is depressed.

I have decided that I don't want Bates and Anna to have kids, simply because thus far all Downton pregnancies have resulted in the death of the baby or one of the parents.

I would like Season 4 to start next week.

Dan Stevens has the best blue eyes since Paul Newman. He may survive.

Dan Stevens is definitely not George Clooney. And it will be a long time before I can forgive him the betrayal of quitting on DA. It is inexcusable.

I had the same thought about Anna and Bates.

When Season 4 starts, I am going to need you to share those English links with me. ;-)
