TV Thursday: Hollywood Game Night

On the surface of it, Hollywood Game Night is not my kind of show; there are no terrible reality types like on the Housewives, it's not made by HBO like Game of Thrones and The Newsroom. And it's a game show. I haven't enjoyed a game show since I hit puberty. Except maybe Jeopardy.

And yet I was all excited last night when we found a new episode on Hulu. Yeah, I said, "WE". Hot Guy's been enjoying the show too. A show mired in pop culture that's just meant to be cheerfully entertaining. . . it's not like his usual science documentaries and HBO shows at all.

It might be the games they play; reminiscent of games played in theater green rooms and cast parties, the games require brain power but not so much that you feel fatigued when they're over.

It might be getting to observe the celebrities playing (there are six celebrities per show, split into two teams. Each team is led by a 'normal' who will win $$ if the team is victorious, the celebrity who helps the normal win the final round gets $$ for his or her charity, too) the games. It's fun to see who's the smartest (Yvette Nicole Brown and Alyson Hanigan) and the most good-natured (everyone else).

It might be that it's hosted by Jane Lynch, who is full of awesome.

It might be that we are desperate for entertainment. What say you? Have you watched Hollywood Game Night? Or do you think Hot Guy and I are just getting desperate?
