All I Needed Was A Menthol Cigarette Hanging Out Of My Mouth

Is your house a mess right now?

Mine is. Even more than usual.

Which didn't seriously bother me until ten minutes ago. I've been putting away and organizing in bits and pieces all day, but I haven't exactly exerted myself. I did, however, manage to collect huge piles of trash (For the love God, toymakers, please cut down on the packaging!). I placed them by my garage door, which is also right by my front door.

When the doorbell rang, I wasn't expecting anyone. So I didn't hesitate as I trudged to the door in my sweats/bangs pinned back by a bobby pin/no make-up condition because I assumed it was UPS or something. I assumed the person on the other side of the door was a stranger - a stranger who had probably come across people much worse than me and my house.

Instead it was Ironflower and Lovebug's teacher. Of course I HAD to open the door. I apologized profusely for the mess as Hot Guy flew up the stairs from the basement and began hauling the trash into the garage. I tried to be sweet and gracious as she delivered the kids' holiday projects and gifts that we hadn't been able to pick up prior to the holiday break. I fear that I just looked hysterical as I tried to explain away the mess - and the fact that Lovebug came jogging out of his room sans pants - and the fact that Ironflower came out of her room wearing socks with a big hole in them.

Lovebug has a habit of taking off his pants while napping. But the hole in Ironflower's socks appeared today. It's the first time she has EVER worn out a pair of socks. EVER. And did I mention that my sweatshirt has spit up stains on it?

We are SO the trashiest family at the preschool.

(If you don't believe me, notice that I'm blogging about this instead of scrubbing my floors.)

Haiku Friday - Our Guests

1338959961_a93cf33414_o4.jpg

Talked to Hubby

about our houseguest problem

but no fix just yet

we were blackmailed

and it seems so was Celia

Sam is an asshole

Hubby is loyal

guilty about Sam's childhood

sorry it was so bad

Sam reminds me of

my first husband, selfish prick

without bad childhood

Still, they are alike

I am physically ill

Hubby so stressed

Sam so demanding

he doesn't see it that way

doesn't get others

I refuse to leave

this is my house, my kindness

you never come back

Entertain yourselves

you'll pay for Hubby not me?

He's not going, jerk

No Wait, I'm a Saint

Thank you everyone who posted such kind, positive and sneaky comments yesterday after my vent about the houseguests. My mother read the post and has emailed her outrage and invitation for the kids and I to stay, so if it gets too bad we will do that.

I never should have said they could come. That's why I feel bitchy about it. Do you think saying, "I didn't realize how annoying you'd be," would be offensive to them?

Do you all mind if I share some more?

Too bad.

Last night Hubby had a play reading in the city. Because he is the cook in the family, I planned on making grilled cheese for the kids, assuming Sam and Celia would want to go into the city with Hubby. But no, Hubby says that Sam said that would be too expensive. They'll be staying here. But Sam is going to make spaghetti for everyone. (nevermind that my kids don't actually eat spaghetti).

Except that Sam and Celia slept until 7:30pm, so I made grilled cheese for the kids and myself. Then, as I was putting the kids to bed, they had a romantic dinner - after rearranging my dining room. Although I do give them points for cleaning it up (although, you know, not that way I like it).

Anyway, today Sam wants us all to go to the mall. He'll buy us all lunch there, but the city was too expensive yesterday? Really? Because I would rather have them out of my way than buying us lunch.

And did I mention that Celia has poreless skin (whereas I am currently in hormone hell) and is a size 0.

Yep, I'm a Bitch

When Hubby asked me if his friend Sam could stay with us for a while, I said okay. When he shared that Sam would be bringing his Chinese (as in, Mandarin speaking from China) girlfriend with him, I said okay. When he said that they would be staying for two weeks, I thought he was joking.

He wasn't.

Back in like 1991, Sam's family let Hubby stay with them for a long while. In Sam's world, this means that Hubby owes Sam.

We do not have a guest room. We do not have a foldout couch. When guests (rarely) come, they either take over Ironflower's room or sleep on a cot in our not remodeled but still used as an office basement.

Since the cot doesn't even really fit one adult, Sam and Celia are now ensconced in Ironflower's room. The original plan, made when I panicked over the thought of having guests in our house for two weeks, was that they would spend a night with us, then go to stay with my parents. Who have an entire floor that can be a guest suite (aka the attic, but they remodeled it very nicely when I moved up there as a teenager). But for whatever reason, the couple is now staying here UNTIL NEXT WEEK.

They are nice and polite, but Sam and I have never been close and I'd never met Celia. Ironflower and Lovebug are unhappily sharing a room and now I have extra housework to do. And we've already run out of toilet paper. Hubby is busy with work all week (like, tonight, for example) and wait. . .so am I. We literally do not have money for extra groceries or for entertaining guests. We don't even have time for entertaining guests. We are no way equipped to have guests for two days, let alone two weeks.

Obviously I never should have agreed to this, but Hubby made it sound like Sam would never forgive him and they've been friends since like the first grade.

Any tips on how to deal with this? Because I just want them to go away, or at least leave me alone the 90% of the time. I suppose this makes me a bitch. I could be using this time to get to know Sam better, or to learn about China (I could say get to know Celia, but since they had such a big fight before coming here that they almost didn't come, I don't think I'll ever see Celia again, to be honest). But I don't feel like getting to know anyone or anything while I'm getting used to being pregnant and working from home.
