I'm Not the Funniest Cousin

I'm having bloggers' block, my friends.

I can't tell whether it's because I've started thinking in t-shirt slogans, whether it's my depression trying to pull me into a pit of despair or whether I'm just too enraged by the news lately to find stuff to write about. 

I mean, I suppose I could bitch about politics in every post but I'm not sure that level of constant rage would be good for me. I'm not Lewis Black. 

I mean, I couldn't pull myself together enough to write a "Friday I'm in Love" post last week. 

But! 

Even though I'm still feeling like a disaster and it's Monday, not Friday. . .I do have something good to share.

I suppose I could have waited until Friday and done another Cure tribute/Friday I'm in Love post. But then I would have had to title it "Friday I'm in Love With. . .My Cousin" and um, let's just say that my blog doesn't need that kind of traffic. 

My cousin is an amazing human being. He's overcome more than I can imagine and he's one of the best people I know. He's also funny as shit.

This is long but it's worth watching the whole thing. But not at work or around children. 

This was his first paid stand-up gig and it was for a good cause and I'm just so damn proud of him.

Marvelous Monday

Over at Band Back Together, we have Dose of Happy Mondays every week.



And every week, I forget to participate. Except this week! This week I have a list of awesome stuff for you to click on, so that you can be happy too. Or you can even join in on your own blog and share a link!  But I called the post "Marvelous Monday" because I really like alliteration. And I feel like "marvelous" is an under-utilized word these days. Anyway, things that make me happy and/or are marvelous . . .

1. That my cousin finally has an outlet for his obsession with Charlie's Angels.

2. That my other cousin moved to Hawaii, became a homeschooler and started a blog in the space of a month. (Confession: This actually makes me happy AND jealous, but she says we can come visit so I'm trying to let go of the jealousy).

3. That my mom started blogging. (New personal goal: Get entire extended family to start blogging.)

4. That Hot Guy is spending more time on Twitter. (Though he already has a higher Klout score than I do. Which is unfair.)

5. That my dad is also hanging out on Twitter. (He also has a higher Klout score than I do. Maybe I should try get the entire family on Twitter instead and have them retweet me so that I could get a higher Klout score? Or possibly I should stop obsessing about my Klout score.)

6. This lovely back-to-school letter. It's a bit too religious for me to share with my kids verbatim, but I'll be sharing similar ideas with my own kiddos this week when they finally go back to school.

My Cousin Is Cooler Than Your Cousin

I have six first cousins, 3 on each side. As an only child, they are the closest thing I have to siblings and I adore them all. But growing up I was probably closest to my cousin Greg - he was the closest to me in age. We used to make up fake newscasts on my tape recorder when we were bored. None of them survived, alas, but proof that at least was one of us was funny can be seen here:
